How to Apply Lace Front Wigs with Tape

June 03 2010
One of the easiest ways to change your look is with lace front wigs. Many of the celebrities nowadays use this kind of wig as it provides a very natural look on your hair as if it is a part of you and has always been.

It is important to know that Lace front wigs are usually made of a French-lace or Swiss-lace cap base which you can fit and bond to your own head, hence the name. If you are able to apply the wig correctly, it should look natural on you. Here are the steps on how to apply the lace front wigs on your head.
1. Cover the whole of your head with a skin-toned wig cap. Mark where you want to place the wig on your hair and make sure that there are no stray hair. You can then shape the lace of the wig into your head's by cutting the lace as close as possible to your hairline.
2. Prepare the area within your hairline by washing it and applying a scalp protector and make sure that there is as less oil as possible for the adhesive to stick. Use the glue to keep the wig firm on your hairline. Have a cotton ball or Q-tip do the patting and securing and make sure that no adhesives get into your eyes. You can also use wig tape to keep the lace front wig in place. Although it may be easier to have the tape at the back and the glue in front, it is still advisable to use both at the back as this strengthens the position of the wig. It is important that you find an adhesive tape that will suit the wig and your skin best, and one that will last longer than others. It is a matter of trial and error depending on which type suits you.
3. As you apply the wig, make sure that there are no stray hairs during application. Using Q-tips or brushes to keep the unit in place makes sure that your fingers do not transfer oils onto the adhesives that may leave a mark after it dries.
4. Press onto the areas that are lifted, or until you are satisfied with the results and the feel of the wig on you.
5. Let the glue and the tape set for a good 24 hours before heavy styling or combing unless noted otherwise. Follow the instructions carefully and accurately for best results.
